Itzel

Roman

Program Coordinator

Itzel (she/her) started her career in wilderness conservation and outdoor education in 2018 as an Eastern Sierra Conservation Corps (ESCC) corps member. There, she spent two months working on trails and living in Kings Canyon National Park. During this time she rediscovered her connection to the wilderness, one that is deeply rooted from running around in the mountains of Oaxaca as a young child. In 2019 she was an assistant lead for the CCC Foundation's Women In the Wilderness program. She continued her leadership development with ESCC, leading trail crews in 2021 and 2022. She is beyond grateful that her work has provided the opportunity to explore and live in places that include Kings Canyon NP, INYO NF, Sierra NF, Los Padres NF, Shasta-Trinity NF, and Tahoe National Forest. In 2023 she joined Adventure Risk Challenge (ARC) as a program facilitator, facilitating a curriculum on identity, leadership, and community through outdoor experiences for high school youth. Since 2018 she has been Wilderness First Aid certified and in 2022 earned her Wilderness First Responder certification. Now, she is excited to be part of the CCC Foundation as program coordinator and lead. "I hope to always inspire an authentic revitalization of relationship with the land, not by borrowing it from someone else, but by finding your roots and remembering how to grow your own," Robin Wall Kimmerer in her favorite book “Braiding Sweetgrass.

Luz

Lara

Operations Coordinator

Luz Lara (she/they) is a queer first-generation Latinx who has spent nine years involved in conservation work, trail construction, and personal/community development programs. She started her journey as a corpsmember with the California Conservation Corps and spent two years sharpening her trail construction skills during spikes, the Backcountry Trails Program (BCTP) in Yosemite NP, and the Australian exchange program. After finishing her time as a corps member, she decided to stay in trails, working back-to-back seasons for several public land management agencies, including National Park Service, CA State Parks, and more. As time passed, their passion for outdoor work (both technical trail construction skills and broader conservation efforts), social justice and community organizing grew. Eventually, Luz became a work sponsor in Yosemite NP for the BCTP during the summers and continued to expand her technical skills with California State Parks or the National Park Service developing in the winters. After three years, Luz felt ready to face the challenge of running their own crew. In 2022 she became a WILDlands technical supervisor for Eastern Sierra Conservation Corps (ESCC). In this role she was able to help cultivate leadership and community  development skills for new conservationists who represent traditionally marginalized communities and guide them through navigating their own development and technical skills in the wilderness. After two seasons as a crew supervisor, Luz became a Field Operations Coordinator for ESCC. In her new role with the CCC foundation Luz hopes to continue to cultivate her passion for exchanging knowledge, providing support and mentorship, and foster the establishment of a safe and thriving community. Even though Luz is slowly leaving trail maintenance behind she is excited to apply everything she's learned, combined with her love and dedication, to her role at CCC Foundation and hopefully influence upcoming generations to explore and protect our natural world.
